Desjardins to Retire

The 37-year old, Eric Desjardins, is planning on retiring. Injuries have slowed the former team captain and defenseman. In his 17-year career, he scored 136 goals and 439 assists. He was the model of consistency for the Flyers. An official announcement is expected today.

A note regarding the Sixers. The Sixers 4.45 million dollar trade excemption expires today and it will go unused. It was acquired when the Sixers dealt Marc Jackson to the New Jersey Nets. Billy King was quoted of saying "There's nobody out there to use it on." The Sixers still have their 5.215 million dollar midlevel excemption available but it looks like that may also not be spent. The Sixers have made no moves and this is essentially the same team that missed the playoffs last year plus Rodney Carney and Bobby Jones.

Comments:
I find it mind boggleing that the Sixers are entering this year with basically the same exact team as last year (sans Salmons). Did anyone see what happened, or was that just me??

As for Desjardains. Sad to see him go, but it was time... hopefully he can still help the club in some way.

do the sixers really expect people to buy tickets to watch the exact same team that finished 38-44 last year? i don't think so. time for billy king to go.
