Desjardins Update
Anyone that gets Comcast Sportsnet can see Desjardins retirement press conferance live at 2 P.M. Say good-bye to one of the best defensemen in team history. He is the second all-time in scoring by defensemen and a former captain. He never brought a championship to Philly but he did leave it all on the ice every game out and the Flyers will miss his ability and even more his leadership in the locker room. Desjardins was acquired with John LeClair in the 1995 deal that sent Mark Recchi to the Montreal Canadiens. Injuries have sapped Desjardins of his ability the past two years, playing only a combined 93 games. The Flyers did not offer Desjardins a contract this summer and that prompted his retirement.
One other unrelated update. Check back tomorrow for an update on how the former Phillies traded at the deadline are doing with their current teams and how the prospects the Phillies acquired are playing. I've already done the research and the prospects have not shown much thus far but it is early. Also the Phillies acquired Zac Scott today from the Reds to complete the Ryan Franklin deal and he has been assigned to Clearwater.
