Phils Acquire Moyer
The Phillies just traded two prospects for 43 year old Jamie Moyer as reported by ESPN moments ago. This year with the Mariners, Moyer is 6-12 with an 4.39 ERA. The two prospects were Andrew Barb and Andrew Baldwin. This move clearly shows that Pat Gillick is trying to win this year and build for the future. Moyer is a quick fix for the pitching staff replacing Scott Mathieson in the rotation. Moyer will pitch on Tuesday against the Cubbies. Barb pitched the last two innings of a combined no-hitter at Lakewood five days ago. Neither prospect is highly regarded and this is a great gamble by Gillick. Kudos to Gillick for going for it this year even after his comments around the trading deadline.

Hey maybe Gillick is a believer now. I suspect he always was. Seems like a good move to me. For once it did'nt really cost us anything. An experienced head with over 200 wins. Better than Mathieson right now. 6+ good weeks please Mr Moyer.
it was a low risk high reward gamble by gillick. little downside as neither prospect was too highly regarded and high upside if moyer helps the phils reach the playoffs
most intriguing development during the rest of the season with the acquisition of Moyer...there is a club option for next season. if he pitches well down the stretch run we could be looking at a 44 year-old in next season's rotation.
moyer makes lieber look young. a second positive out of this trade is moyer can mentor hamels down the stretch and help him continue to develop.
